Observe a Student in Canvas

Utilize this guide to pair additional students to a Parent Canvas account.

If you do not already have a parent account, please use this guide to create the account: Creating a new parent account

Before starting, generate a new pairing code for the student that needs to be observed. Please follow the steps outlined here:

Instructions for Generating a Pairing Code

Utilize these steps to create a pairing code from the student’s Canvas account:

  1. Have the student sign into Canvas from their chromebook.

  2. Select Account from the top left.

  3. Select Settings.

    Click Account, then Settings

  4. On the right-hand side, select Pair with Observer

    Select Pair with Observer

  5. It will now generate a pairing code that can be used to create a parent canvas account.

    Pairing code will now display

     

The pairing code will expire in 7 days, or after one use.

 

Website

  1. Sign in to the Parent Account from the sign in page and select Parent.

  2. Click the 'Account' tab on the left and select 'Observing'.

  3. This will display the students the guardian account is currently observing.

  4. Enter the pairing code that the student generated and click on the blue Student button to add them.



iOS and Android

  1. After logging into the app, find the name at the top of the screen.

  2. Tap the down arrow to the right of your name.

  3. Select the + Add Student icon.

     

  4. Select Pairing Code

    Select Pairing Code

     

  5. Enter the pairing code and select OK
