How to fix Chromebook microphone sensitivity issues

Problem

Student audio is very loud or quiet when they speak during Google Meet sessions.

Solution

Chromebooks allow you to adjust microphone sensitivity which can cause a student's audio to become loud and full of static or very quiet. A student might accidentally change their microphone sensitivity, so it will need to be adjusted.

Step 1

Open settings by clicking on the system tray (bottom right)

Step 2

Open sound settings by clicking on the circle icon with the arrow pointing to the right

Step 3

Adjust the slider bar under 'Microphone (internal)’ to adjust the microphone sensitivity. The middle point is the default and recommended level
