How to Set Up a Passcode on iOS (iPhone & iPad)
Setting a passcode helps protect your device and personal data from unauthorized access. Whether you're using Face ID, Touch ID, or just a numeric code, a passcode is your first line of defense.
📱 Steps to Set Up a Passcode
Applies to: iPhones and iPads running iOS 17 or later
1. Open Settings
Tap the Settings app (gear icon) on your Home Screen.
2. Navigate to Passcode Settings
On iPhones with Face ID: Tap Face ID & Passcode
On iPhones with Touch ID: Tap Touch ID & Passcode
On devices without biometric options: Tap Passcode
3. Tap “Turn Passcode On”
You’ll be prompted to enter a passcode.
4. Choose Your Passcode Type
Tap Passcode Options to select:
6-digit numeric code (default)
4-digit numeric code
Custom numeric code
Custom alphanumeric code
5. Confirm Your Passcode
Enter it again to activate.
