How to Set Up a Passcode on iOS (iPhone & iPad)

Setting a passcode helps protect your device and personal data from unauthorized access. Whether you're using Face ID, Touch ID, or just a numeric code, a passcode is your first line of defense.


📱 Steps to Set Up a Passcode

Applies to: iPhones and iPads running iOS 17 or later

1. Open Settings

  • Tap the Settings app (gear icon) on your Home Screen.

2. Navigate to Passcode Settings

  • On iPhones with Face ID: Tap Face ID & Passcode

  • On iPhones with Touch ID: Tap Touch ID & Passcode

  • On devices without biometric options: Tap Passcode

3. Tap “Turn Passcode On”

  • You’ll be prompted to enter a passcode.

4. Choose Your Passcode Type

  • Tap Passcode Options to select:

    • 6-digit numeric code (default)

    • 4-digit numeric code

    • Custom numeric code

    • Custom alphanumeric code

5. Confirm Your Passcode

  • Enter it again to activate.
