How to search video footage

This guide shows an overview of the basic functions providing users the ability to sift through security footage.

 Instructions

  1. Open Google Chrome > click on the Google Apps waffle and scroll down to find Verkada

  2. Click on a camera to view search options and tools - please see the camera view screen below. Each numbered item is detailed below the picture


  1. Back button

    1. Takes you back to the normal camera portal from your current view

  2. Visual controls

    1. From top to bottom options include Fullscreen, Horizontal (semi) Fullscreen, Zoom in and Zoom out (zoom out only available after zoomed in at least once)

  3. Your account Avatar

    1. Shows your account info

  4. People, Vehicles, Motion

    1. Will show the most recent person or people, vehicles or any motion the camera detects. If no time frame is set (in Area 6) all three options will show current detections

  5. Viewing options

    1. Motion, History, and Archive are how users can search. Searching by Motion gives you People, Vehicles, and Motion to search by. History allows users to see each day starting at 12:00AM and going a full 24 hours. For a more in-depth Archive overview, go here

  6. Calendar and Show Paths buttons

    1. The calendar button allows users to set a specific timeframe to view camera footage. Please note: footage is only accessible 30 days from the newest / earliest day

  7. People, Vehicles, Motion Visuals

    1. When the options in Area 4 and Area 5 are set, you can see the thumbnails change to those settings. Scrolling down when in the individual camera view will show the applied settings cameras view

Scrolling down to Area 7 (where all the video thumbnails are showing) users can click on the images of the footage and begin looking at each individual clip for searching. At the bottom of the window that opens are a few options users can use to quickly navigate through the footage - options are displayed left to right:

Users can scrub quickly through the timeline of the selected camera by clicking and dragging anywhere on the timeline

  1. Playback controls

    1. Play / pause

    2. Rewind 10 seconds

    3. Skip 10 seconds

    4. Rewind 1 frame

    5. Skip 1 frame

    6. Footage speed chooser

  2. Timeframe chooser - when clicked, the exact day and time can be chosen within an easy to read interface. Blue chunks on the timeframe line indicate activity - the blue chunks make it easy for users to notice and review quickly

  3. Footage options

    1. Add camera view - a popup Area will show giving users the option to select more than one camera to view within the current view of the first camera chosen - simply click on another camera and click Done to add more

    2. Take footage screenshot - when clicked, users will need to allow the footage screenshot to be downloaded to their computer

    3. Create Archive - The Create Archive box opens. Users have a few options to choose from but are not necessarily required to create the archive:

      1. Note - add notes here for quick reference to the happenings in the archive

      2. Tags - add tags to quickly find the footage labeled with a specific tag or tags

      3. Blur Faces - hover over this options ? to see important details regarding the settings

      4. Timestamp location - pick where the timestamp is positioned on the footage when done archiving

    4. Settings - a popup box will show giving users two options:

      1. SQ with HQ motion - Standard Quality with High Quality Motion allows for standard video quality when no motion is detected and high quality video when the camera detects any type of motion (may yield slower response times when searching / archiving footage)

      2. SQ only - only standard quality will be used when there is both motion detected and no motion detected (may yield fast response times when searching / archiving footage)

    5. Fullscreen - the entire view goes fullscreen

Highlight important information in a panel like this one. To edit this panel's color or style, select one of the options in the menu.
