How to Handle Spam/Phishing Emails

  • Phishing is the attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card information, often for malicious reasons, by disguising as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.

  • Email Spam is the use of electronic messaging systems to send an unsolicited message, especially advertising, as well as sending messages repeatedly on the same site

 Instructions

If a Phishing or Spam message has been received please report these emails as a phishing scam or spam message directly in Google Mail.

  1. Open the particular email message in Google Mail and drop the following drop-down menu and click either Report Spam or Report Phishing

 

  1. Clicking Report Spam will automatically report it as spam.

  2. If an email is deemed to be a phishing scam, or a foreign entity attempting to gain access to personal information, please utilize the Phish Alert option, and the following window will be presented. Once the window opens, hit the Report button.
