Chromebook Take-Home Tips for SCASD Students
Whether it’s for homework, virtual learning, or creative projects, SCASD Chromebooks are ready to support students at home. Here’s everything you need to know—from turning it on to logging in and keeping it safe.
🔛 How to Turn On the Chromebook
Press the Power button located on the top-right of the keyboard or side of the device.
Wait a few seconds for the login screen to appear.
If the screen stays black, try plugging in the charger and holding the power button for 10 seconds.
🔌 How to Charge the Chromebook
Plug the charger into the Chromebook’s charging port—usually on the left or right side of the device.
Plug the other end into a wall outlet.
Look for a small charging light near the port:
Amber/orange means it’s charging.
Green/white means it’s fully charged.
Leave the Chromebook plugged in until the battery is full—especially overnight before school.

🧼 Tips for Cleaning Your Chromebook
Part | How to Clean |
|---|---|
Screen | Use a dry microfiber cloth. Avoid sprays or liquids directly on screen. |
Keyboard | Gently wipe with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid excess moisture. |
Exterior | Use a disinfecting wipe (alcohol-based, not bleach). |
⚠️ Never spray cleaner directly onto the device. Always apply to cloth first.
🛡️ Tips for Keeping Your Chromebook Safe
Always carry it in a padded case or sleeve.
Keep food and drinks away from the device.
Charge nightly so it’s ready for school.
Don’t leave it in extreme temperatures (hot cars, cold porches).
When not in use, store it in a safe spot—not on the floor or under piles of books.
🧠 Tip: Remind younger students to close the lid gently and never pick it up by the screen.
