Taking Attendance in Schoology (Using Present, TLU, and Unexcused)
Schoology’s attendance tool allows teachers to record daily participation using district-approved codes: Present, TLU (Teacher Late Unexcused), and Unexcused. This guide walks you through the process step by step.
✅ Step-by-Step Instructions
Log into Schoology and sign in with your district credentials.Open Your Course
From your dashboard, select the course for which you’re recording attendance.
Access the Attendance Tool
In the left-hand course navigation menu, click Attendance.
If you don’t see this option, contact your Schoology administrator to enable it.
Record Attendance
You’ll see a list of students and a column for each date.
Click each student’s cell to cycle through the following codes:
Present – Student is on time and participating.
TLU (Teacher Late Unexcused) – Student arrived late without an excused reason.
Unexcused – Student was absent without an approved excuse.
You can use the Fill down option to fill in for all students
Click again to change or clear a selection.
Submit Your Entries
After marking attendance for all students, click the Submit button at the bottom of the page to save your entries.
If you navigate away without submitting, your changes will not be saved.
🔄 Tips & Best Practices
Use “Mark All Present” to quickly fill in the day, then adjust individual entries.
Double-check your entries before clicking Submit to ensure accuracy.
Syncing with SIS: If your Schoology attendance syncs with your Student Information System, verify that codes match district reporting standards.
