Taking Attendance in Schoology (Using Present, TLU, and Unexcused)

Schoology’s attendance tool allows teachers to record daily participation using district-approved codes: Present, TLU (Teacher Late Unexcused), and Unexcused. This guide walks you through the process step by step.

✅ Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log into Schoology and sign in with your district credentials.Open Your Course

    • From your dashboard, select the course for which you’re recording attendance.

  2. Access the Attendance Tool

    • In the left-hand course navigation menu, click Attendance.

    • If you don’t see this option, contact your Schoology administrator to enable it.

  3. Record Attendance

    • You’ll see a list of students and a column for each date.

    • Click each student’s cell to cycle through the following codes:

      • Present – Student is on time and participating.

      • TLU (Teacher Late Unexcused) – Student arrived late without an excused reason.

      • Unexcused – Student was absent without an approved excuse.

    • You can use the Fill down option to fill in for all students

    • Click again to change or clear a selection.

  4. Submit Your Entries

    • After marking attendance for all students, click the Submit button at the bottom of the page to save your entries.

    • If you navigate away without submitting, your changes will not be saved.

  • Use “Mark All Present” to quickly fill in the day, then adjust individual entries.

  • Double-check your entries before clicking Submit to ensure accuracy.

  • Syncing with SIS: If your Schoology attendance syncs with your Student Information System, verify that codes match district reporting standards.
