How to Use Classroom Technology at Delta: Projectors and Document Cameras

Delta utilizes a similar set up to the High School and newer Elementary school buildings. Below is the quick start guide for how to use the projector setup in most classrooms.

All rooms should have a remote for their projector. It is typically located on the teachers desk or by the whiteboard.

Projectors will automatically switch inputs based on what was most recently connected. For example, if the document camera is displaying an image, and then a laptop is connected, the input will automatically switch to the laptops display.

Projectors

  1. Turning On the Projector

    • Press the blue power button on the remote. It may take a few minutes for the projector to fully power on.

  2. Connecting Your Device

    • Each desk has an HDMI cable and dongle. This dongle connects to the USB-C port on most district laptops.

  3. Adjusting the Image

    • Projectors should be pre calibrated. Only perform this step if there is an issue with the image or if the pens are not registering on the whiteboard.

    • To quickly calibrate the projectors image and interactive pens, press and hold the User button on the remote. This processes can take up to 5 minutes. Avoid standing near the whiteboard while calibration is in progress.

  4. Using the Remote Control

Some rooms utilize multiple displays through a display doc. Multiple displays will not work on a Macbook unless the DisplayLink software is installed on the Macbook. For more info, see the article linked below. Connecting More Than One External Display

Document Cameras

  1. Setting Up the Document Camera

    • Document cameras in the Delta building connect to the projector through an HDMI cable. Additionally, there is a barrel jack cable that provides power to the document camera. Both must be plugged in to use the document camera.

  2. Powering On

    • Along the top of the document camera is a large recessed button with a power symbol on it. Press this button to power on the document camera. While on, the LED light on the button will be blue.

    • To turn off the document camera, press the power button twice. The LED light will turn orange when the document camera is off.

  3. Projecting the Image

    • The document camera will display anything directly under the camera arm.

Tips for Effective Use

  • Prepare in Advance: Ensure all cables and connections are set up before class to avoid any technical delays.

  • Test Equipment: Check that the projector and document camera are working properly before starting your lesson.

  • Engage Students: Use the interactive features of the projector and document camera to make lessons more engaging.

  • Seek Help When Needed: If you encounter any issues, don’t hesitate to reach out to your IT support team for assistance via the ticket system or calling 814-231-7743

By following these steps, you can effectively utilize classroom technology to enhance your teaching and create a more interactive learning environment.
