How to Use Classroom Technology at MNMS: Projectors and Document Cameras

How to article on how to use classroom technology to project and utilize the document camera.

Projectors:

Rooms equipped with HDMI: 50, 112, 114, 120, 210, 214, 221, 224, 252
All other rooms are VGA unless mentioned above

  1. Turning On the Projector

    • Every classroom is equipped with a Projector. Usually mounted from the ceiling

    • Find the Projector remote and press the blue power button.

      • Note: You may need to move around in the room abit in order for the sensor on the projector to line of sight the remote. All most all rooms will work just fine from the teachers station.

    • The projector will turn on in a couple of minutes and display a blue image on the screen

    • VGA equipped rooms:

    • Note: If the blue image does not appear on the screen, you will need to make sure the VGA switch has the projector selected as its input. The VGA switch is a black box near the teachers desk / doc cam.

      • The projector is almost always input 1

      • DocCam will be either input 2 or input 3 depending on the VGA switch model

    • If the room is using HDMI:

      • The projector is almost always input 1

      • DocCam will be either input 2 or input 3 depending on the room.

        • HDMI equipped rooms have the auto switch feature turned on. So if you want to use the doc cam, simply just turn it on. To switch back, turn it off

  2. Connecting Your Device

    • Plug the dongle with the VGA or HDMI cable into the USB-C port on the macbook or chromebook

  3. Adjusting the Image

    • Contact IT Services if you are having issues with the image on the screen.

  4. Using the Remote Control

    • Turning on the projector

      • To turn on the projector, press the Blue button in the upper left hand corner of the remote

    • Source search

      • You can perform a source search if the projector is not detecting your laptop by pressing the “Source Search” Button in the upper right hand corner of the remote.

    • Freezing the screen

      • You can Freeze what it is displayed on the screen as well. You can do that by pressing the “Freeze” button in the lower right hand side of the remote

    • Volume adjustment

      • You can adjust the volume as well using the remote. SImply press the volume up and down buttons in the lower right hand side of the remote.

  5. Changing the audio output on your Macbook:

    1. You will need to change the audio output to ESPON PJ

    2. Chromebooks usually change automatically.

Document Cameras

  1. Setting Up the Document Camera

    • The DocCam will be already setup in the classroom for you. All you will have to do is power it on and switch the input on the VGA switch. (HDMI switches will do this automatically)

  2. Powering On

    • To power on the DocCam, press the large power button on top of the device. The light should change from Amber to Green.

  3. Projecting the Image

    • To project the DocCam image, change the input on the VGA switch to 2 or 3.

Tips for Effective Use

  • Prepare in Advance: Ensure all cables and connections are set up before class to avoid any technical delays.

  • Test Equipment: Check that the projector and document camera are working properly before starting your lesson.

  • Engage Students: Use the interactive features of the projector and document camera to make lessons more engaging.
