What if my child is absent, late, or needs an early dismissal?

This help article will assist a parent / guardian in reporting their child(ren) absent, arriving late, or will be leaving school early. This is an overview as each school building will have slight variations in their process. Best advice is to check with your child's main office on their procedures.

 Instructions

There are a few different ways that a Parent / Guardian can report their child(ren) as absent, arriving late, or need an earlier dismissal

  1. Contact Schools Main / Attendance office: (will vary depending on the school your child(ren) attend). To find your child's school office information, please refer to the State College Area School District website at www.scasd.org. Then hover over the Schools option, then select your child's school

    1. Email: This is the preferred way as this creates a hard copy for the students file, and prevents notes from getting lost, etc. This email is checked by the Office secretaries, so your email will be seen.

      1. An example would be for Mount Nittany Middle School: mnmsattendance@scasd.org or the Delta Program: Delta-Attendance@scasd.org

    2. Phone: Phone numbers for your child's school can be found from the www.scasd.org website. Just navigate to your child's school, then click on “Contact Us”.

      1. Note: The page that has the main / attendance offices phone number may vary with each schools webpage.

    3. Note signed by the Parent / Guardian: You can also send a note along with your child to turn into the main / attendance office when they arrive at school as well.


  1. PowerSchool Parent app:

    1. If you have the PowerSchool Parent app installed and signed in with the email SCASD IT has on file for you, you can also mark attendance in there as well. Note: Parent email address and Student Name and Student Number are blacked out for security reasons in the images below

      1. Log into the PowerSchool Mobile app if you have not done so

      2. Double check to make sure you have the correct Child selected before proceeding

        1. You can change the child in the upper right hand corner in the circle with the initials, click on that and select the correct child

      3. Once logged in, click on the More button in the lower right hand corner of your phone screen

      4. Click on the Forms option in the list.

      5. Scroll down until you see the “Student Absence Form” and Click on it

      6. Fill out the form with the correct information

      7. Click Submit
