Transferring Phone Calls
Do NOT press the DND button on your phone - it will send all calls to VM and silence the handsets
This guide shows users how to know when they have voicemails waiting to be answered and how to answer them successfully.
There are a couple different ways to transfer a call:
Blind Transfer: Call will be immediately transferred to the other party without negotiation
Attended Transfer: When the caller answers the calls, transfer the call to the other party while letting the other party know who is on the line and the reason for their call
*** For most district users, Attended Transfer will be the preference ***
Attended Mode
Attended Mode is the most traditional way of taking, notifying and transferring a call to another district users' phone. This mode can be achieved by following the steps in each image below from top to bottom
Example below is for X7U Phones with the large touch screen displays
When the call is received, tap on the Answer button on the touch screen, the call will then be in progress
When ready, tap on Dial (this will be the current caller on hold until transferred) then manually type in the users four digit extension
You are not talking to the party that is expecting the call
When the third party is ready to take the call, tap on Xfer on the touch screen, this will transfer the call and hang the phone up on your end
The Attended Transfer was made successful
Example below is for X4U Phones with the traditionally sized screens
When the call is received, press the Answer soft key button on the phone, the call will then be in progress
Blind Transferring
Blind Transferring is when a call is transferred without talking to the other party first. The caller is sent directly to the third party without notification. If the third party’s phone is set to DND (Do Not Disturb) mode the call will immediately be sent to voicemail and the phone will not ring at all.
When a call comes in and is answered, simply press the Xfer button on the touch screen or the softkey button on the standard phones and dial the four digit extension you’d like to send the call to. Once the call is sent the phone will hang up automatically - your handset can be hung up at this point, the call was Blind Transferred successfully.
