Multi-Factor authentication for employee email access. This will mean that when signing into email our employees will be prompted to enter a verification code to authorize the login. This is a simple process that employees can complete on their own using these instructions and by utilizing either SMS, Google Authenticator app, or security token.

 

  1. Open a new tab and click on your name in the top right and then click manage your google account

2. On the left side, click on Security, then scroll down to the Signing into Google section, and click 2-Step Verification. It should say off.

3. Should bring you to the below screen. Click Get Started.

4. It will ask you to sign in with your SCASD email password.

5. It will prompt you which option you want to use as the authentication method, with the phone prompt being suggested automatically, but if you click show more options, there are other options you can use as well.

Use Google prompts

We recommend you sign in with Google prompts. Google prompts are push notifications you’ll receive on:

  • Android phones that are signed in to your Google Account 

  • iPhones with the Smart Lock app , the Gmail app , or Google app  signed in to your SCASD Google Account

Based on the device and location info in the notification, you can: 

  • Allow the sign in if you requested it by tapping Yes

    Block the sign-in if you didn’t request it by tapping No

Use a verification code from a text message or call

A 6-digit code may be sent to a number you’ve previously provided. Codes can be sent in a text message (SMS) or through a voice call, depending on the setting you chose. To verify it’s you, enter the code on the sign-in screen.

Use a Physical Security Key

A physical security key is a small device that you can buy to help prove it’s you signing in. When we need to make sure it’s you, you can simply connect the key to your phone, tablet, or computer.

Use backup codes

Important: Never give out your backup codes to anyone.

You can print or download a set of 8-digit backup codes to keep in a safe place. Backup codes are helpful if you lose your phone.

6. Once you choose your authentication method and a backup method, It will send you a code to your cell phone to confirm that works.

7. After that, it should take you back to the Google Account screen you started at, saying that 2 Factor authentication is enabled.
