How to create an assignment in Synergy Gradebook

The following article will walk you through creating an assignment in Synergy Gradebook.

Instructions

IMPORTANT: There is a setting that MUST be enabled before creating new assignments or it could cause issues with grading - 'Sync max score and points on new assignments'

  1. Click on ‘Gradebook’ in the blue bar. Then click ‘Grade Book Setup’ - then click 'Grade Book Settings

  2. Scroll down the list to the bottom and ensure ‘Sync max score and points on new assignments’ is checked

  3. If you see ‘max score’ and ‘points’ when creating an assignment then you NEED to follow the above steps.

 

 

Creating an assignment in Synergy

  1. Login to Synergy TeacherVUE and navigate to the Gradebook.

  2. Click the blue “+” symbol in the lower right-hand corner and choose the Assignment option.

  3. The window that opens will feature a menu bar along the top with options for the new assignment

    Content - you will add details about the assignment and create the assignment content

    • Category - Choose the category/type of assignment. You can create additional categories, but only the pre-existing categories will sync with Canvas categories.

  • Student Content - a rich-text editor where you create your assignment content and can insert text and images (using Tools)

  • Tools - allows you to embed content from various sources, such as your Google Drive, YouTube videos, and a growing library of images and documents directly into your assignment

Scores - Manually enter student numerical scores, set assignment as ‘excused’, hide within the portal, add comments, etc.

  • When entering a grade, you can add Public and Private comments for the grade and also assign comment codes to explain scores

Advanced Settings - Set grading type (normal/extra credit/not for grading), set Rubric Grading Type, change grading periods, change ParentVUE and StudentVUE settings for assignments
