How to access Eclipse from RDP

Accessing and Installing Java and Eclipse for use with Remote Desktop


  1. Open Google Chrome and browse to the following web URL -

  2. Next enter your just your userid and password when prompted and click Sign In

  3. At the Work Resources page select Eclipse Lab to launch the Remote Desktop connection

  4. Once the Windows Remote Desktop connection logs you into Windows open Google Chrome in the Remote Desktop window

  5. In Google Chrome go to the following Google Drive Shared folder to download and install Java and Eclipse -

  6. You MUST install Java first before installing Eclipse click the jre-8u251-windows-x64.exe file to download it to the Remote Desktop Computer

  7. After the file downloads you'll need to launch the installer from the taskbar in Google Chrome

  8. Installing Java - Click Yes to allow this app to make changes to your device prompt

  9. Click Install to start the Java installation process

  10. After installation has successfully been installed click Close

  11. Next you'll need to download install Eclipse via the Shared Google Drive folder - eclipse-inst-win64.exe -

  12. Click Download after clicking the Eclipse installer

  13. If prompted that the file can't be scanned for viruses please click Download Anyway

  14. After the file is downloaded click the installer in the Google Chrome taskbar

  15. Once the Eclipse installer has started you'll need to select Eclipse IDE for Java Developers from the list of choices to install

  16. Next click Install to install Eclipse for Java Developers you can leave the options to create a desktop and start menu checked for easier access later.

  17. Finally after installation is complete you can click the Launch button to start Eclipse.  In the future you'll be able to launch the software from the shortcut on the desktop.
